'Dark Shadows': Burton, Depp disappoint
Tim Burton’s “Dark Shadows” is as surprisingly mediocre as his “Alice in Wonderland” was. In other words, both films were as unexpectedly bad as Burton’s adaptation of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” was unexpectedly superb.
'The Avengers' is smart summer fun
The movie is smart enough to make its absurd fantasy characters as credible as such fantasy can be — a movie, too, that remembers that the smartest thing a "comic book" movie can do is to remember to make it "comic."
