Hires/Promotions/ Honors The Second Circuit Judicial Council Committee on History, Commemorative Events and Civic Education recognized Gregory L. Peterson, a partner with Phillips Lytle, for his significant contribution toward preserving the legacy of Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson. Peterson co-founded and serves as president of the Robert H. Jackson Center in Jamestown.

Hires/Promotions/ Honors Read to Succeed Buffalo, a collaborative literacy organization dedicated to improving early childhood literacy for children, named Michael Riccio database administrator. Riccio most recently completed a year with AmeriCorps VISTA in Buffalo at the Seneca Street Community Development Corp., where he was responsible for developing and implementing a structured after-school homework program for teens. He also created and maintained a tracking system for volunteers and donations. He is a graduate of Canisius College.

Hires/Promotions/ Honors Insyte Consulting manufacturing consultant Philip Cellotto was recently published in the New York City Industrial and Technology Assistance Corp.’s newsletter for manufacturers. Cellotto’s article, “Value Stream Mapping for Make to Order,” was a featured article discussing how lean manufacturing can be applied to a made-to-order manufacturing operation.

Hires/Promotions/ Honors University at Buffalo distinguished professor emeritus Eli Ruckenstein was elected to the 2012 class of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s oldest and most prestigious honorary societies. Ruckenstein, an influential chemical engineer, is a retired professor in the department of chemical and biological engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He was a UB faculty member since 1973. Ruckenstein received bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in engineering from Polytechnic Institute in Bucharest, Romania. The new class of members will be inducted during a ceremony in October at the academy’s headquarters in Cambridge, Mass.

Denz, chief executive officer of Tara Cares, a patient-care centric organization that provides support services to numerous nursing, senior-living and assisted-living centers, Corporate Leadership Award; Len Crispino, retired leader of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, 2012 Canadian Business Leader of the Year; Mythily Sasiharan, senior financial analyst for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Outstanding MBA Student for 2012; and David Lemieux- Sarrasin, Outstanding Undergraduate Student.

Hires/Promotions/ Honors University at Buffalo associate professor emeritus Dr. John Eisner received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistry. Eisner had a transformative impact on dental education with the development of information management systems that have been used in admissions and course/student evaluations in dental education.
