KENDALL – Orleans County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Town of Kendall man Monday evening after he allegedly shot his wife, set their house on fire when police surrounded it, then shot himself.

Dennis P. Buehler, 64, of Peter Smith Road, and his wife, Linda E., 58, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

Buehler faces multiple criminal charges when he recovers, Sheriff Scott D. Hess said.

Linda Buehler called deputies shortly after 7 p.m. to report that her husband confronted her when she arrived home and shot her in the shoulder.

She said she ran from the house after a struggle and drove to a neighbor’s home to call for help.

Deputies surrounded the Buehler home and then summoned the Orleans County Multi-Agency SWAT Team.

By the time the SWAT Team arrived, Buehler apparently set fire to the house, then walked outside and shot himself in the face.

The Kendall Fire Department responded once officers had secured the house, and were assisted by several other fire companies from Orleans and Monroe counties. Officials said the house was a total loss.
