Jamestown man linked to child sex abuse case

JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown man was arrested and jailed last week on child sex abuse charges, Jamestown police said.
Jason R. Alexander, 30, had sexual relations with three children younger than 13 over the past year, police said. Alexander was arrested Aug. 9 and charged with three counts of sexual conduct against a child. Alexander was arraigned in Jamestown City Court and was later transferred to Chautauqua County Jail.

One shot, two injured in melee outside bar

NIAGARA FALLS – One man was shot and two people were hit by a car early this morning after a dispute outside a Pine Avenue bar, city police said.
The argument began about 3 a.m., when about 100 people were leaving Mujun’z American Pub, between 15th and 16th streets. A fight broke out outside the bar, police said, and Antonio Porter, 36, of the Falls, was shot in the hip.
Porter was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center with what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.
In the ensuing rush to flee the area where the shot was fired, two people were hit by a passing car, then taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, police said, one with a broken femur. Police declined to identify the victims but said they did not suffer life-threatening injuries. One was treated and released.

Falls man stabbed on Highland Avenue

NIAGARA FALLS – A city man was stabbed Saturday night at the Elks Lodge on Highland Avenue, police said.
The 27-year-old man was taken to Erie County Medical Center, Police Superintendent John R. Chella said. The man, who was not identified, is expected to survive, Chella added.

Woman, 20, charged in slapping incident

TOWN OF LOCKPORT – A Lincoln Place resident was arrested early Sunday after she slapped a neighbor in the face while the woman was holding her two young children, Niagara County sheriff’s deputies said.
An argument at about 12:30 a.m. led to the attack. The victim was not seriously injured, deputies said.
Patricia A. Daugherty, 20, was charged with harassment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Sept. 5 hearing ahead for three Falls swimmers

NIAGARA FALLS – A Sept. 5 hearing awaits three Frankfort, Ky., men who had to be rescued after being caught trying to swim near the base of the Horseshoe Falls on Aug. 5.
Edward F. Goins, Michael A. Samples and Adam K. Jones, each 20, are charged each with disorderly conduct and reckless endangerment. Jones also was charged with possession of a controlled substance – amphetamines, police said.
The three were arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court recently. Goins and Samples were released after posting $300 bail. Jones was released after posting $500 bail.
The three were spotted shortly after 10 a.m. by Cave of the Winds staffers. A rope rescue team from the State Parks Police rappelled about 50 feet into the Niagara River gorge below the Cave of the Winds to lead them to safety.
They had climbed down onto rocks near the shoreline at the base of the Horseshoe Falls.

Not guilty plea entered in five-count DWI case

LOCKPORT – A Mill Street man pleaded not guilty to a five-count drunken driving indictment late last week in Niagara County Court.
Justin G. Kopp, 30, is charged with felony and aggravated driving while intoxicated, failure to keep right, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle when he was arrested June 9 in the City of Lockport.
Deputy District Attorney Theodore A. Brenner said police measured Kopp’s blood-alcohol content at 0.23 percent.

More than towels taken from motel

NIAGARA FALLS – A couple who rented a room at a Niagara Falls Boulevard motel apparently left with more than just their bags on Friday, police said.
When employees of the Pelican Motel went to clean the room after the couple had left, they found that a 25-inch television and a microwave oven had been stolen out of the room.
The missing items were valued at $150.

Bandits on bicycles rob woman of $52

NIAGARA FALLS – Two bandits on bikes robbed a 29-year-old woman of $52 on Lockport Street near South Avenue on Friday night, police said.
The victim, a Hyde Park Boulevard resident, told police that at about 10:30 p.m., she was robbed of a cigarette pack containing money.
