Alvin James Waite, a Behr Process consultant, died unexpectedly Friday at his home in Lockport. He was 62.
Born in Lackawanna, Mr. Waite attended Niagara County Community College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Case Western Reserve and St. Bonaventure University, earning his master’s and an MBA in chemistry.
He began a career with Pratt and Lambert Paint, where he worked for 20 years. He later went to Santa Ana, Calif., with Behr Process as vice president of research, returning to Lockport in 2004 and continuing to serve as a consultant for Behr Process.
Mr. Waite was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; a member and past Noble Grand of Erie Lodge 22, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; a member of Modestia Rebekah Lodge 66 in Cheektowaga; and a member of the American Chemical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, the former Denise Atherton; a son, the Rev. James Waite; a daughter, Jennifer Broome; and a sister, Mary Alice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. John the Baptist Church, 168 Chestnut St., Lockport.
