LIVING MEMORIES – Hundreds of fascinating folks have found their final resting place in Forest Lawn and to ensure they’re not forgotten, the cemetery is hosting trolley tours focusing on two different groups of notables next month.
The African American History Trolley Tour at 1 p.m. on Sept. 8 includes visits to the grave sites of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, musician Pete Johnson and 14 African-American Civil War soldiers, among others.
The tour will be led by historian Barbara Nevergold, retired Buffalo and Erie County Public Library systems administrator Sharon Holley, and teacher and family historian Sonia Walker. Tickets are $15. For reservations, call the Forest Lawn office at 885-1600.
A series of three Women’s History Trolley Tours will take place at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16, providing insights into women artists, writers, architects, doctors and social activists who made their mark at the local, national and international levels. Tickets are $25.

CREATIVE SPARKS – The Songwriters Universe, a six-session song-writing workshop with Alan Whitney, who has written songs for Dwight Yoakam, among others, will begin Sept. 10 in Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road.

SEMINARY SOIREE – The 21st annual Farewell to Summer evening to benefit the SS. Cyril & Methodius Seminary of Orchard Lake, Mich., will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Sept. 6 in the Millennium Hotel, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga. Invited to attend are Bishop Richard Malone, retired Bishop Edward U. Kmiec and Auxiliary Bishop Edward Grosz.
The evening includes a dinner, chance auction and split club raffle. Proceeds are used to prepare men for the priesthood at the seminary, including several from Poland who plan to serve in American parishes after ordination.
