SILVER CREEK – Revaluation of property in the Town of Hanover will start next year, the Town Board learned during a meeting Monday night.
The plan is to start collecting data in 2013 and schedule visits to properties in 2014.
Robert Wright, of the Office of Real Property Tax Services of Batavia, presented the information to the Town Board during a workshop before the regular meeting.
The town’s equalization rate dropped to 98 percent this year. It had been at 100 percent since the last revaluation in 2006.
Darlene Fox, who works in the Town Assessor’s Office, encouraged senior citizens to stop in and apply for tax exemptions.
Details of income limits will be given to seniors when they call 934-2552 about various exemption programs. The age for applying for a senior citizen exemption is 65.
Fox said town residents can expect to receive their school tax bills from the Silver Creek Central School District during the first week in September.
In other matters, Carol DePasquale, chairwoman of the Planning Board, said plans are moving forward for a hotel and water park proposed on Routes 5 and 20. She said the State Environmental Quality Review study of the site, near Beebe Road, is just about complete and the Chautauqua County IDA will be required to add information about the site’s historic interests.
DePasquale said some residents of Beebe Road expressed concerns about the increase in traffic that the development may bring.
She asked town Highway Superintendent Steve D’Angelo to pursue ideas to make the area easier for large construction vehicles.
