Fatal shooting victim identified as Buffalo man
Buffalo police homicide detectives Monday identified a man shot to death Sunday morning at Carl Street and East Delavan Avenue as Walter Davison, 34, of Buffalo.
The shooting occurred at about 10:30 a.m.
Davison apparently was hit by a shotgun blast from a passing vehicle, according to a police spokesman. He died later in the day at Erie County Medical Center.

Two brothers are injured when ATV hits tree in Eagle
TOWN OF EAGLE – Two brothers, ages 17 and 12, were injured when they lost control of the ATV they were riding and it struck a tree Friday on Route 39, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday.
Deputy Michael A. Bentham said the younger boy was treated for chest trauma in Women & Children’s Hospital, Buffalo, and the 17-year-old was treated in Wyoming County Community Hospital. The names of the boys were not released.
Two Centerville men linked to theft of two vehicles
WARSAW – Two men have been charged with the June theft of two all-terrain vehicles from a Town of Pike farm, Wyoming County sheriff’s deputies said.
Zachary Foreman and Ashton Tatko, both 20 and both of Centerville, were charged last week with one felony count of grand larceny. They were located in Maine, where they had enrolled in a job program despite knowing there were warrants for their arrest, according to Lt. Edward Till.
Police charged that on June 9, Foreman and Tatko were at a farm with women who distracted migrant workers there while the men stole the ATVs valued at more than $4,000. Both vehicles later were located in Allegany County, where one of them had been driven into a pond.
One of the women involved in the June incident subsequently was charged in connection with a series of assaults and robberies targeting migrant workers, Till said.
Man charged with DWI, had three children in car
OAKFIELD – A Genesee County man was charged with multiple felony counts of drunken driving following a routine traffic stop in the Town of Oakfield, state police reported Monday.
Troopers said Walter B. Hale, 34, of Oakfield, was pulled over Sunday along Route 63. There were three young children in the car with him.
Hale had been drinking and failed standard sobriety tests, troopers said. After another family member took the children, Hale was taken to the Batavia barracks, where a breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.09 percent.
Hale was charged with three felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated – violations of Leandra’s Law, which involves driving with a BAC of 0.08 or more with children younger than 16 in the vehicle. He also was charged with an additional felony count of DWI because of a previous drunken driving conviction within the past 10 years, troopers noted.
Following arraignment in Town Court, Hale was sent to the county jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is due back in court Thursday.
Failure to dim lights leads to drunken driving charge
BERGEN – A motorist pulled over by police in this Genesee County town for failing to dim his headlights was charged with driving while intoxicated, troopers said Monday.
Christopher J. White, 56, of North Chili, was pulled over Sunday on Route 33, state police said. White was intoxicated, troopers said, and had marijuana and a glass smoking pipe in his possession.
White was taken to the Batavia barracks, where a breath test indicated he had a blood-alcohol content of 0.22 percent, troopers said. Because the reading exceeded 0.18, he was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated. He also was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, troopers said. He was released pending a Sept. 5 appearance in Town Court.
Drugs are found on woman visiting inmate in Collins
Drugs were found on an Attica woman when she went to visit an inmate at the Collins Correctional Facility, state police announced Monday.
Julie A. Westermeier, 36, was charged Sunday with misdemeanor counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and a felony count of promoting prison contraband.
According to troopers, Westermeier had Suboxone, which is used in the treatment of opiate addiction. The drug was found during a pre-visit search by corrections officers at the medium-security prison.
Westermeier was sent to the Erie County Holding Center in lieu of $10,000 bail.
